Mauricio Buitrago(Reprinted)

Inspired by pop artist, editorial photography and the endless world of computer design and animation, Buitrago created a system based on; THE PIXEL. Hundreds of symmetrical wood blocks, hand-painted individually with acrylics, then neatly assembled in a elaborate woodworking process to create the factors of illusion and distance in each piece. When viewed up close, you see a modern display of colored blocks but as you question its form, your eyes and mind develop the need for distance between you and the piece, making a distinct image appear. Buitrago was born in Cali, Colombia in 1969.

Rachel Perry Welty(Reprinted)

Rachel Perry Welty graduated from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston in 1999 with a fifth year certificate in 2001. She had a solo exhibition of her work at The Barbara Krakow Gallery in Boston, 2004 and at the “CC”Coburn Gallery in Colorado in 2007. She was selected for the “Levity: Selections Spring 2007” exhibition at The Drawing Center in New York. Most of us don’t pay much attention to the mundane objects we use everyday, like the twist ties that hold the plastic wrap on our bread and the broccoli together or the little paper cups that we pull out of a water dispenser. Using thousands of the throw away items at her disposal, Rachel Perry Welty takes these ordinary items and creates works of art with texture, complexity and meaning. There is a ritual about compiling these unconventional art materials into sculptures that seems both overwhelming and obsessive. Link here.

Alain Delorme(Reprinted)

Alain Delorme was born in 1979. He graduated from Gobelins in Paris with a degree in Photography. He also has a Master of Science and Technology in Photography from the University of Paris VIII. In this series, ‘Totems’, the composites are recreated on the basis of 6,000 images taken in Shanghai during two art residencies. The loads are exaggerated to emphasize the ‘totems’, which are highly symbolic of the ‘Made in China’ consumer culture. Delorme is represented by Galerie Magda Danysz in Paris. (previously-blogged)

Sketchbook 2010 (Reprinted)

Thanks to everyone who left me comments to my previous project “Skechbook.”  For me is  very surprising that so many people liked it. This set includes new designs, as well as those that I just forgot to show the last time.

To avoid repetition, I will write here the answers to frequently asked questions.
For work  I’m use simple gel pen (Pilot), sometimes also “PITT Artist Pen” Faber-Castell
I make only a very rough sketch with a pencil. I have a site where you can see the same pictures closer (if you press “+”). I never remove the pencil lines, so we’ll see “as is” .

Cloudscapes(Reprinted)

‘ One of the most talked about installations at the 12th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice was Cloudscapes. Japanese architect Tetsuo Kondo and a German climate engineering firm Transsolar came together to put a cloud in a large interior space called the Corderie, a 316-meter-long space where ropes for Venetian ships were made. Visitors to the exhibit can walk through the cloud via a circular ramp that ascended 4.3 meters high. This feat of climate engineering is produced by blowing three layers of air into the space at different temperatures. Cool dry air at the bottom layer keeps the cloud up; warm, humid air in the middle creates the dense fog; hot, dry air sits on top. Click through for photos and video from the exhibition which will be on display in Venice through November 21, 2010. ‘ (viaFlavorwire)

Dedo message board (Reprinted)

It provides an easy, intuitive, and fun way to express ideas, leave messages and play, just by simply dragging your finger trough the fur you leave a trail, a drawing… It functions both as a basic communication device and a decoration piece. It offers a much more appealing way to leave a message and converting it into a statement, bringing in a whole new dimension of personalisation and communication to the domestic environment. Link here.

aiweiwei(Reprinted)

Chinese artist Ai Weiwei has filled the museum’s turbine hall with millions of life-sized sunflower seeds, these life-sized sunflower seed husks are in fact intricately hand-crafted in porcelain. Each seed has been individually sculpted and painted by specialists working in small-scale workshops in the Chinese city of Jingdezhen. The installation encourages visitors to touch and walk on the carpet of “sunflower seeds”.

Roman Ondak(Reprinted)

Viewers play a vital role in the creation of Measuring the Universe (2007), by Slovakian artist Roman Ondák (b. 1966). Over the course of the exhibition, attendants mark Museum visitors’ heights, first names, and date of the measurement on the gallery walls. Beginning as an empty white space, over time the gallery gradually accumulates the traces of thousands of people. The inclusion of viewers in the process of art making has a long tradition in the history of performance-based art. By inviting people to actively participate, artists attempt to overcome traditional divisions between art objects and spectators, and production and reception. Measuring the Universe turns the domestic custom of recording children’s heights on door frames into a public event, referring through its title to humankind’s age-old desire to gauge the scale of the world. The process creates a work of art with a multitude of participants, merging art with everyday life in a confluence that is at the very center of Ondák’s artistic practice. Link here.

we do the design(Reprinted)
